Deputy Chief Accountant London (Local Authority) Fully remote £577 per day (inside IR35) Via Umbrella Company 3 months initially Role Purpose We are seeking an experienced finance professional to support the Chief Accountant in leading a London Council’s financial accounting function. The postholder will deputise for the Chief Accountant, oversee statutory financial reporting, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide expert financial advice across the organisation. Key Responsibilities Lead the preparation of the Council’s statutory accounts in line with IFRS and CIPFA standards. Deputise for the Chief Accountant, including presenting to senior committees when required. Manage and support a small team, with wider responsibility during the Chief Accountant’s absence. Oversee reconciliations, forecasts, and financial controls in line with regulations. Provide expert financial accounting advice to budget holders and senior officers. Drive process improvements, including financial systems and automation. What We’re Looking For Qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with strong technical expertise in financial accounting. Experience of producing statutory accounts, ideally within local government. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
