Regulatory Development and Engagement Manager

Location: Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Job Purpose

Working under the overall direction of the Head of Compliance Effectiveness & Oversight and in close collaboration with the Director of Compliance & Regulatory Affairs, the Chief Risk Officer and the Regulatory Relations Team, the manager will support the Director in developing and maintaining effective relationships with all UK regulators (PRA, FCA, OSFI, CBI, IOMFSA) and in analysing and interpreting regulatory changes. The role ensures timely implementation of regulatory change, provides regulatory advice to business partners, coordinates regulatory interactions and supports senior management and the board in regulatory meetings.


Key Accountabilities

* Act as a technical resource for regulatory developments, assessing and communicating impacts to the business.
* Document and deploy intelligence gathering approaches to maintain awareness of relevant regulatory developments across UK, Europe and Canada.
* Keep knowledge up to date and anticipate future regulatory developments by reviewing key information sources and industry groups.
* Interpret new regulatory proposals and assess their potential application to Canada Life UK division and wider strategic implications.
* Monitor and report progress of implementation of regulatory changes and provide relevant management information.
* Provide regular summaries and analysis of regulatory communications and papers for board, executive and management committees.
* Lead coordination of regulatory interactions, maintaining constructive relationships with regulators and supporting senior managers in regulatory meetings.
* Manage the flow and turnaround of regulatory requests, maintaining a log of communications ensuring timely closure of actions.
* Provide reports to senior leadership on material regulatory issues and breaches requiring escalation.
* Coordinate with Risk & Compliance and business units to ensure consistent approaches and ownership of implementation actions.
* Initiate and oversee the implementation process for regulatory changes, working with the 2nd Line compliance team, project office and wider business.
* Contribute to training delivery to the business on regulatory developments as required.


Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills

* Excellent knowledge and experience of business processes and controls within life, equity release, asset management and pensions businesses.
* Detailed knowledge of regulatory frameworks and requirements (e.g. PRA and FCA handbooks).
* Capability to take difficult decisions, assess escalation needs and balance regulatory requirements with business needs.
* Strong influencing skills effective at all levels of the organisation, with excellent oral and written communication.
* Organisational skills to work under tight deadlines, particularly during periods of high regulatory communications.
* Proven ability to build relationships with regulators, colleagues, business unit leaders and governance functions.
* Analytical skills to assess wider implications of regulatory changes on business.
* Accurate and succinct reporting and presentation skills.
* Have or currently studying for a regulatory or financial services qualification (desirable).
