Where you fit in
The Energy Team sits within the wider commercial team and manages some of the largest areas of operating expenditure across the business. The Energy Contracts Specialist will be responsible for vendor management of high-profile third-party contracts including electricity and gas supply agreements (worth £120m annually) and the metering contract. The role will contribute to the energy strategy and manage an increasing number of renewable contracts on multiple sites. You will interface with internal teams and external stakeholders in the energy industry including energy suppliers, TPIs, renewables companies, DNOs, and regulatory bodies (Ofgem and Ofwat).
Key responsibilities
* Manage the Energy Team’s core contracts including electricity and gas supply, power purchase agreements, metering services, DNO agreements, energy broker services, and renewable private wire contracts.
* Review and report on vendor performance against SLAs; initiate processes to reduce non-compliance and improve performance.
* Support billing, validation, payment, and metering processes.
* Recover renewable incentive income of £4.5m per year.
* Manage supplier tenders with incumbent TPIs in accordance with procurement regulations.
* Evaluate contract pricing mechanisms related to flexible electricity supply tariffs to develop revenue streams.
* Support development of grid flexibility services and capacity management revenues.
* Produce business cases to support new contract services.
* Contract administration including purchase order management and maintaining contract information in Energy Management System.
* Maintain Ofgem accreditation of existing generation assets, comply with audit requests and data submissions.
* Contribute to strategic forecasting and business planning.
What skills and qualifications you will need
* Experience in the energy and utilities industry and working with energy suppliers.
* Significant experience with flexible electricity contract mechanisms.
* Experience with meter management activities, industry standards, flows, and MOP contracts.
* Commercial contract management, tendering, and contract administration experience.
* Experience working with Energy Brokers (TPIs) is advantageous.
* Excellent IT, data management, and reporting skills; proficient in MS Office.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage heavy workloads and attention to detail.
* Analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong interpersonal skills.
* Resilient under pressure with a customer-service ethos; self-reliant with a drive for development.
* Willingness to travel to different sites across Yorkshire; UK driving licence with up to 6 points.
