Serve the Vale. Protect our communities. Build a healthier future.

Are you a qualified Environmental Health professional with a passion for protecting people’s health and safety? Join Shared Regulatory Services (SRS), serving the Vale of Glamorgan, Cardiff, and Bridgend. Your work will have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of local residents, ensuring our communities are safe, healthy, and resilient.

Why the Vale of Glamorgan?

As part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, you’ll be joining an organisation that is Ambitious, Open, Together, and Proud.
We:

1. Put community well-being at the heart of what we do.
2. Value equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring services are accessible to all.
3. Invest in our people, supporting continuous learning and offering opportunities such as Work Welsh training.

The role

This is more than just a regulatory post — it’s about protecting public health and supporting communities. You will:

4. Safeguard residents by investigating communicable diseases, outbreaks, workplace injuries, and dangerous incidents.
5. Work with businesses to raise safety standards and prevent risks before they impact the public.
6. Reassure and guide communities during public health concerns, providing clear, accessible advice.
7. Support vulnerable groups by ensuring public health legislation is applied fairly and effectively.
8. Strengthen community confidence by responding quickly and transparently to health and safety issues.

The impact you’ll have

Your work will:

9. Prevent illness and injury by enforcing standards in workplaces and public spaces.
10. Protect families and individuals during outbreaks of disease by coordinating effective interventions.
11. Improve local business practices, ensuring safe, compliant environments for workers and customers.
12. Build resilience in the community, helping people feel safe and supported in everyday life.
13. Promote fairness and trust, as you apply legislation consistently and provide advice that empowers both businesses and residents.

About you

We’re looking for someone who can combine technical expertise with a genuine commitment to community well-being. You should have:

14. A degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health or a related field, with evidence of CPD.
15. Experience in communicable disease control, health protection, or health & safety enforcement.
16. Strong knowledge of Environmental Health legislation and guidance.
17. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and build trust.
18. A flexible approach to working across the Vale, Cardiff, and Bridgend, sometimes outside normal office hours.
19. Professional membership (e.g. CIEH) would be an advantage.

What we offer

20. Competitive salary (Grade 9, SCP 31–35).
21. Hybrid and flexible working to support work-life balance.
22. Generous leave and pension scheme.
23. Opportunities for professional development and to learn Welsh.
24. A workplace culture built on collaboration, inclusivity, and service excellence.
