A leading global technology organization within the Defence & National Security (DNS) sector is seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to join a major strategic programme, delivering secure and innovative solutions across a broad technology landscape. This role sits at the heart of the customer’s Design Authority, with responsibility for defining and driving engineering processes, governance, and automation strategy across multiple suppliers and technical domains.
You will shape the engineering vision, ensuring that the organization consistently delivers assured, high-quality outcomes that align with customer strategy and long-term business goals. This is a pivotal opportunity for a seasoned engineer and strategic thinker to influence complex transformation programmes within a highly secure environment.
Engineering Lead Responsibilities:
* Act as part of the customer’s Design Authority, leading on all aspects of engineering process, governance, technology, and strategy.
* Define and maintain engineering standards, processes, and guidance covering the end-to-end delivery lifecycle (software, infrastructure, and service management).
* Oversee engineering governance across multiple suppliers, ensuring consistent quality and compliance.
* Define engineering and automation tooling requirements and support delivery teams with implementation and adoption.
* Drive the engineering vision and roadmap to align with customer and programme objectives.
* Manage the Engineering Community of Practice, leading and developing a team of engineering professionals.
* Enable a culture of automation and knowledge sharing, leveraging lessons learned to strengthen engineering capability across the business.
* Support teams to adopt and embed engineering processes and best practices.
Required Experience:
* Proven experience in defining and leading engineering strategy across complex, multi-supplier environments.
* Strong background in engineering governance, process improvement, and automation enablement.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience engaging senior customers and design authorities.
* Ability to lead and mentor technical teams, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Understanding of end-to-end solution lifecycles, including software, infrastructure, and service management disciplines.
