About the Role

This permanent Teaching Fellow position is an opportunity to join the Cymraeg subject team at Swansea University, contributing to its exciting and innovative Cymraeg BA degree programmes. The role involves teaching a variety of modules to undergraduate students with different linguistic abilities, contributing to First Language and Second Language degrees.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about teaching Welsh as a language, its literature and related cultural studies. The successful candidate will require a broad knowledge of the discipline to contribute to a wide range of modules and may specialise in one or more areas: Welsh literature, language (grammar and/or language acquisition), Welsh law and language policy, translation, Welsh history, sociolinguistics, Professional Welsh and/or education.

The key responsibilities include preparing and presenting seminar content, giving formative feedback, assessing coursework, and participating in activities to offer academic support (e.g., office hours and review sessions).

The Teaching Fellow will support students' written and spoken Welsh development through seminars with small groups, workshops and one‑to‑one sessions. They will work closely with the teaching team to ensure students receive an exceptional learning experience. The post holder is also expected to contribute to recruitment efforts and perform administrative roles for the subject.

Responsibilities

* Prepare and present seminar content and provide formative feedback.
* Assess coursework and contribute to student support through office hours and review sessions.
* Support students' development in written and spoken Welsh through seminars, workshops and one‑to‑one sessions.
* Collaborate with the teaching team to ensure an excellent learning experience and contribute to recruitment efforts.
* Perform administrative tasks for the Cymraeg subject as required.


Qualifications and Skills

* Welsh language level required: Level 3 – Fluently. Ability to conduct fluent work conversations in Welsh and write original Welsh material with confidence.
* Broad knowledge of the discipline to contribute to a wide range of modules (specialisation in Welsh literature, language, law and policy, translation, history, sociolinguistics, Professional Welsh and/or education is welcome).
* Ability to teach Welsh as a language, its literature and related cultural studies.
* Experience with seminar delivery, feedback provision and assessment of coursework.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 3 – Fluently. The role holder should be able to conduct fluent Welsh conversations on work matters and write original Welsh material with confidence. The University is bilingual, and Welsh language applications are welcome. Welsh speakers have the right to an interview in Welsh. Where Welsh skills are essential, applicants will be interviewed in Welsh if shortlisted.
