Assess patients' plans and implement care, providing specialist advice and maintaining associated records.
- Triage referrals submitted on a 2-week wait suspected prostate cancer pathway and review for further investigations and diagnostics required.
- Work as a specialist for patients with suspected or diagnosed urological cancers.
- Provide specialist education and training to staff, patients, and carers.
- Undertake research activities and lead clinical audits within the specialist area.
- Offer psychological support to patients and families, including breaking bad news of a cancer diagnosis or disease progression. This includes conducting Holistic Needs Assessments at appropriate stages.
- Communicate with multidisciplinary teams and act as a highly specialist resource, liaising with healthcare providers within and outside the Trust regarding diagnosis and treatment, including referrals to other professionals such as oncologists. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
The Rapid Prostate Clinical Practitioner role offers opportunities to develop clinical, leadership, and management skills. Excellent communication and self-awareness are essential for well-being. The post requires effective teamwork and autonomous working. The post holder will be a core member of the Urology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge in urological diseases and patient care.
The Urology Team includes 13 Consultants, 8 Clinical Nurse Specialists, 2 Cancer Support Workers, and a dedicated administrative team, supported by a new Urology Department at Alstone Clinic. The team also includes nurse practitioners, surgical care practitioners, and a specialized ward in Cheltenham.
