Band 5 Research Assistant Lantern Project
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the LANTERN study team at Goodmayes Hospital on a fixed‑term basis, working 37.5 hours per week. This role, available from June 2026, is part of a 20‑month research programme funded by the National Institute for Health Research’s Programme Development Grant. With a salary in Band 5 (£32,073‑£39,043, pro‑rated for part‑time roles), this position will contribute to groundbreaking research in crisis care interventions for individuals with a diagnosis of personality disorder. The Role
The position will support the LANTERN study, led by Dr Lisa Wood and Professor Sonia Johnson, which focuses on developing a specialist intervention for people with a diagnosis of personality disorder. The successful candidate will assist in all aspects of the study, contributing to research that has the potential to make a meaningful impact on mental health services.
* Conducting qualitative interviews with service leads delivering novel crisis care for individuals with a personality disorder.
* Recruiting participants for the study and ensuring ethical research practices are upheld.
* Collecting and managing standardised quantitative and qualitative data to inform the development of a funding application for a future NIHR Programme Grant.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* A BPS‑accredited BSc degree in psychology.
* Experience working with individuals with mental health challenges and/or other disabilities.
* Understanding of the needs and challenges faced by people with a personality disorder.
* Proven experience in recruiting participants for research studies.
* Previous experience working within the NHS or other large healthcare organisations.
* Proficiency in collecting and managing standardised quantitative and qualitative data.

High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London
This post also attracts payment for a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,870 and a maximum payment of £6,137 per annum, pro‑rated for part‑time).
