We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated apprentice to learn about and support the operational delivery of our Animal Health Trading Standards team across North Yorkshire.
Our Service
The Farming, Food and Health team within North Yorkshire Regulatory Services incorporates Environmental Health and Trading Standards functions. Its purpose is to protect and enhance the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors to the County and to protect the interests of legitimate businesses. This is achieved by providing advice and guidance and, where necessary, by enforcing relevant legislation to deliver the Council’s statutory and non-statutory functions.
The Role

* Provide guidance and support to farmers on animal health and welfare matters
* Undertake audits at livestock premises and critical control points
* Respond to reports of non-compliance, taking enforcement action, when necessary, in line with the NYC enforcement policy
* Respond to notifiable disease outbreaks, supporting containment efforts
* Collaborate with key partners such as Public Health and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to mitigate spread and protect the farming industry
What You Will Bring
To thrive in this role, you'll bring:
* A good standard of education including literacy and numeracy at level 2 or equivalent.
* Commitment to obtaining a level 4 Regulatory Compliance qualification, via an apprenticeship, which is equivalent to the first level in the Trading Standards Qualifications Framework.
* Proven ability to manage conflict and complaints, both informally and formally
* Knowledge of current animal health legislation
* Understanding of agencies such as DEFRA and APHA
* Strong investigative, analytical, and interpretive skills
* Willingness to work predominantly outdoors, year-round, across sites like farms, livestock markets, abattoirs and feed mills
* Ability to handle livestock, sample animal feed and fertilisers
