Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

This full‑time post is based at Luton Hospital (Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and forms part of the Bed, Herts & Bucks OMFS network, which serves a population of about 700,000.
Responsibilities
* Provide a full range of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including in‑patient, out‑patient, day case and minor oral surgery services across Luton & Dunstable, Bedford, Lister, QEII and Milton Keynes hospitals.
* Deliver head and neck cancer surgery with micro‑vascular reconstruction, with free flap techniques; provide supervisory mentorship when required.
* Participate in a 1:8 on‑call rotation for general OMFS and a 1:4 rota for head and neck patients at Luton & Dunstable Hospital.
* Take full and independent responsibility for the OMFS service, including trauma care.
* Engage in clinical governance, audit and evidence‑based practice, including guideline appraisal, implementation and participation in national audits.
* Provide teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and medical students, and attend national specialty meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Full and specialist GMC registration; entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (CCT) within 6 months of interview.
* GDC registration (or eligibility within 6 months). A record of recent published clinical research is desirable.
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent (CESR) in OMFS.
* Completion of a head and neck cancer fellowship or equivalent.
* Evidence of comprehensive OMFS training, including micro‑vascular reconstruction, surgical dermatology and head & neck malignancy management.
* Experience in teaching, with knowledge of learner‑centred methods and a completed “Teaching the Teachers” or equivalent course.
* Understanding of research principles, ability to interpret and apply clinical research, and supervising postgraduate research.
Personnel Circumstances
* Residence within 10 miles of the hospital or within a 30‑minute drive for on‑call emergencies.
* Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory occupational health clearance and DBS clearance.
Salary £109,725 – £145,478 per annum.
