Context:
M&G plc, as a major UK listed financial services provider is required to maintain a comprehensive and effective Risk Management Framework that meets regulatory expectations and supports well‑informed decision‑making across the Group. The Operational Risk Framework Manager is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the Group Operational Risk Framework, including RCSAs, Controls, Issues and Events management with associated training materials.
This is a group-wide role that works across business areas and legal entities to ensure the Operational Risk Framework is coherent, well-understood and consistently applied. The role holder will provide SME support and direction to the broader Non-Financial Risk team to enable effective and consistent adoption of the Operational Risk Framework.
The role holder will be expected to liaise with senior stakeholders across all business areas including the presentation of Operational Risk Framework updates at various Committees and Forums, where required.
Success in this role requires (i) Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills, (ii) Proven track record developing Operational Risk Management Frameworks, (iii) Strong analytical skills, (iv) Strong verbal & written communication skills, and (v) Self-confidence and the ability to deliver presentations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the design, maintenance and ongoing development and enhancements of the group-wide Operational Risk Framework, including RCSAs, Controls, Issues and Events management Standards.
2. Lead the design, maintenance and ongoing development of the Operational Risk training materials and support the communication of the framework.
3. Keep up to date on developing practices in operational risk frameworks and determine their importance and impact on M&G plc, developing and implementing changes where appropriate.
4. Support and coordinate communication of Operational Risk Framework developments to the Risk and Control Community.
5. Work closely with the GRC Platform Integration & Support Team on effective implementation of the Operational Risk Framework.
6. Presentation of Operational Risk Framework related topics at various Committees and Forums, as required.
7. Maintain collaborative and trusted relationships between the first line and the broader Non-Financial Risk that is positive, respectful and constructive including oversight of risk culture embeddedness.
8. Ensure compliance to the people policies, Group Code of Conduct and embedding desired behaviours.
Key Knowledge
9. Strong understanding of PRA/ FCA regulatory expectations relating to Operational Risk within financial services (Essential)
10. Strong understanding of best practice and industry standards in relation to Operational Risk Management Frameworks (Essential)
11. Broad understanding of the risk landscape facing M&G (Essential)
12. Knowledge of Insurance and Asset Management businesses is beneficial but not essential.
