Mechanical Maintenance Fitter

About the role:
Salary: £47,457.36
Benefits: up to 10% annual bonus, 3 x life assurance policy, 5% employer pension
Location: Manchester, Longley Lane Material Recycling Facility
Hours: 4 on 4 off shift pattern, nights 6pm - 6am.
What will I be doing as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter?
Working on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, you’ll play an essential role in maintaining the equipment that keeps our recycling and resource‑recovery processes moving. You’ll help ensure our machinery operates at peak performance, contributing directly to environmental sustainability and the safe, efficient delivery of our services.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Carrying out planned maintenance, inspections and servicing of processing, recycling and recovery plant and machinery.
2. Ensuring plant installations and modifications meet current standards and regulatory requirements.
3. Assessing and diagnosing mechanical faults, and advising supervisors on corrective actions.
4. Completing repairs using safe systems of work and following all Health & Safety policies.
5. Supporting continuous improvement by helping identify maintenance and reliability enhancements.
What are the requirements? (Experience and qualifications)
6. A mechanical engineering background, ideally time‑served through an Engineering Apprenticeship (or equivalent experience).
7. Experience working in manufacturing, production engineering, waste management or a similar maintenance environment.
8. Hands‑on knowledge of equipment such as conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics; basic electrical fault‑finding is beneficial.
9. Ideally City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
10. A good understanding of Health & Safety regulations; IOSH is desirable, and training can be provided.
