Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and hardworking team as the Training Lead across Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals. In this role you will be responsible for developing and delivering an efficient and UKAS‑compliant training programme and competency assessment across the Histopathology Service, supporting the training needs of all staff and facilitating their professional development.
The service processes approximately 60,000 samples per year and focuses on delivering a high‑performing, high‑quality, fully compliant service that prioritises patient care.
Responsibilities
* Facilitate the training and development needs for all staff in the Histology Service (excluding medical consultants).
* Identify, communicate and record staff training needs effectively.
* Develop and maintain a training record system that meets ISO 15189: standards.
* Organise and deliver training for staff and service users under the direction of the service lead.
* Maintain own competence and contribute technically when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Biomedical Science degree or equivalent.
* Post‑graduate qualifications such as IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma, IBMS Specialist Diploma in Biomedical Science (Histology), Masters or equivalent, or working towards.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Experience across a range of work procedures and practices relevant to the post.
* Previous relevant experience in a Histopathology laboratory at band 6 level; significant post‑registration experience in a UKAS‑accredited and IBMS‑approved training laboratory.
* Experience in training staff.
* Experience with UKAS assessments.
* Experience with pathology IT systems.
* Practical experience of quality management systems.
* Experience writing SOPs and policies.
Desirable
* Qualification supporting management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer or quality management.
* IBMS dissection qualification.
* European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent.
* Previous experience in staff leadership or mentoring.
* High specialist histopathology knowledge and experience across a range of work procedures.
* Good understanding of UKAS standards.
