The Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health Team is seeking a Parent-Infant Practitioner/Perinatal Community Nursery Nurse to join our friendly and compassionate Mid-Mersey Specialist Perinatal Team, working within Warrington and Halton, with possible cover across St Helens and Knowsley. This role is part of our wider Cheshire and Merseyside Specialist Perinatal Service.

The post holder will be a qualified Nursery Nurse employed to work as a Parent Infant Practitioner within the specialist perinatal multidisciplinary community team. The role focuses on supporting mothers and infants to develop physically and emotionally, nurturing their relationship and attachment. Activities undertaken by the Parent-Infant Practitioner (Nursery Nurse) will be at the discretion of the team's Perinatal Health Visitor and the Parent-Infant Lead Clinical Psychologist, following appropriate training and demonstrated competency.


Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible to the Perinatal Team Manager and Perinatal Health Visitor, working as a qualified Nursery Nurse Practitioner. They will receive clinical supervision from the Parent-Infant Lead Clinical Psychologist and provide support to parents in making informed parenting decisions, offering evidence-based advice on baby care, development, feeding, attachment, and local community resources. The role involves delivering support in various settings, assessing infants' health and well-being, and aiding mothers in managing baby care, considering the impact of mental health issues.

Job responsibilities

Principal Responsibilities

* Manage own workload under supervision, organizing assessments, planning, and evaluating care programs for mothers and infants.
* Work within policies and collaborate with other clinicians.

Clinical

* Contribute to needs assessments and interventions, providing care in various community settings.
* Support families, including partners and extended family, to promote attachment and bonding, especially considering mental health challenges.
* Maintain confidentiality, adhere to safeguarding procedures, and participate in audits and practice development.

Non-Clinical

* Ensure the safety and maintenance of equipment.

Training & Education

* Maintain and improve professional skills through ongoing education, including mandatory and specialist training.

Clinical Governance/Research and Audit

* Follow governance guidelines, participate in appraisals, and contribute to quality assurance activities.

Communication

* Establish effective communication with clients, families, and professionals, recording information accurately and working in distressing situations with empathy.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* NNEB, Diploma in Childcare and Education, Level 3 BTEC, NVQ Level 3 in Early Years, or equivalent.
* Willingness to undertake further training in parent-infant relationships and therapeutic skills.


Knowledge / Experience

* Community working experience, child development screening, and working with infants and families.
* Experience with safeguarding and mental health issues.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check due to the nature of work with children and vulnerable populations.

Salary: £26,530 to £29,114 per annum/pro-rata
