Outdoor Activity Leader - Brackley, Northamptonshire
Survival Leaders are responsible for the successful delivery of our outdoor adventure programme, Ultimate Survival. They deliver a variety of bushcraft and outdoor activities, lead from the front, and manage a team of Survival Instructors, inspiring and supporting them in their roles. Survival Leaders ensure the welfare and safety of children on-site, adhere to policies and procedures, and act as contacts for stakeholders including parents, staff, school representatives, and Head Office.
Camp Leaders are the face of our outdoor programme, expected to uphold company values and maintain professionalism. This role is busy, rewarding, and varied, requiring passion and experience in the outdoors to deliver an exceptional camp experience for children.
Responsibilities include:
1. Preparing and delivering activities for children aged 7-14, focusing on participation, skill development, and enjoyment.
2. Managing a team of Instructors, ensuring quality care and activity standards.
3. Leading by example with energy and enthusiasm to inspire staff.
4. Ensuring adherence to all policies, including Health & Safety, Behaviour, and Safeguarding, to maintain a safe environment.
5. Liaising with Head Office regarding updates, queries, and issues.
6. Acting as the point of contact for parents and providing feedback as needed.
7. Coordinating with the Host School to ensure smooth camp operations.
8. Managing administrative duties such as sign-in/out, medical forms, staff deployment, and timetable adjustments.
9. Collaborating with staff across other programmes (UAC, UTech, etc.) to ensure site-wide smooth operations.
10. Handling challenges associated with running an outdoor holiday camp.
11. Promoting children's welfare and ensuring high-quality childcare that meets diverse needs.
12. Exhibiting energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism, serving as a role model.
13. Upholding the company's promise of 'Inspiring Children Every Day' through professional conduct.
Requirements:
* Extensive experience in childcare and/or education settings.
* Natural leadership with management experience, preferably in outdoor education, camps, or childcare.
* Strong communication skills, confident in engaging with parents and school staff.
* Good knowledge of bushcraft activities.
* Decisive, able to assess situations quickly and react appropriately.
* Availability to attend all required training sessions.
* Desire for a challenging, rewarding summer job to advance in childcare, teaching, or outdoor education.
Desirable:
* Experience in outdoor education, especially bushcraft.
* Paediatric First Aid (12-hour) qualification.
* Relevant NGBs or experience in archery, slacklining, canoeing, or environmental studies.
Additional hours may be required on Thursday nights (6-9PM) for a Campfire Cookout, payable as overtime depending on site needs.
