Critical Data Centre M&E Engineer – Bath
Location: Bath
Salary: £47,000
Hours: Continental Shift Pattern
Our client is a global data centre services organisation, expanding their presence, and requires multiple shift engineers at a critical data centre in Bath. The role involves working on a continental shift pattern, covering 12-hour days and nights, and is suited for experienced multi-skilled building services or data centre engineers responsible for routine and reactive maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems in a highly critical environment. These sites are co-location facilities housing servers for major organizations, requiring 100% uptime.
The salary guideline is up to £47,000 basic, with an annual bonus based on total earnings including overtime. There are opportunities for overtime and training, making this an excellent opportunity to join a leading company in a booming sector.
Duties include:
* Operate all M&E systems within the Data Centre efficiently and effectively, including HV electrical isolations/operations. Make recommendations for improvements and provide technical reports as needed.
* Ensure all Specialist Sub Contractors perform work according to approved Standard Operating Procedures.
* Carry out daily emergency callout tasks.
* Complete logbooks and RAMS.
* Apply a risk-focused maintenance approach and operate plant and systems in data centres/critical environments.
* Ensure all critical client services, such as computer rooms, data networks, manufacturing, and revenue services, meet client requirements.
* Provide emergency response standby, escalate urgent issues, and respond to outages or emergencies in accordance with SLAs.
* Support technical audits related to critical environments as directed by the line manager.
* Maintain records and logs to demonstrate maintenance delivery.
* Supervise contractors when required.
* Conduct emergency lighting testing.
* Perform electrical work including lighting, wiring, testing, alarm systems, BMS, lighting systems, and heat exchangers.
* Demonstrate knowledge of AHU, FCU, UPS, Generators, LV systems, including fault finding.
* Evaluate and escalate potential risks, assessing impact, causes, and mitigation strategies.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of safety procedures, ensuring compliance with QHSE policies.
* Assist the Data Centre Shift Leader in operational delivery of planned, reactive, corrective, and project works.
Requirements include:
* Trade-trained with at least 3 years’ experience in building services.
* City & Guilds Level 3 Electrical Qualification.
* Experience working on critical sites such as Data Centres or Banking Sites.
* Strong building services knowledge.
* Ability to lead a team under pressure while remaining calm and delivering services within deadlines.
* Willingness to attend on and off-site training, possibly including nights away from home.
