Overview

The closing date is 17 September 2025

An Exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Echocardiographer or Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist specialised in Echocardiography or Cardiac Rhythm Management. You will be predominantly based on the Royal Hospital site but will provide services to Broadgreen and Aintree Hospitals. Given the nature of the department a flexible working pattern.

Applicants must either be BSE accredited or BHRS accredited and have completed either a BSc in Healthcare Science or PGCert in Echocardiography. Applicants must have AHCS/ HCPC registration or be working towards registration [If an ETP candidate].


Main duties / Responsibilities

* Provide Echocardiography to inpatients and outpatients
* Perform Echocardiography independent to BSE dataset guidelines
* Report and analyse Echo results in line with BSE guidance
* Line manage staff within your team with the assistance of the department manager
* Perform advanced techniques such as TOE, Exercise/ Dobutamine Echo, Bubble studies, Contrast studies and more

For Pacing qualified individuals

* Provide routine pacemaker follow up
* Provide inpatient pacing follow up for complex devices including emergency situations involving a device
* Be trained in the physiologist led LINQ implant service

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.


Job responsibilities

* To provide Echocardiography to inpatients and outpatients
* To perform Echocardiography independent to BSE dataset guidelines

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Undergraduate honours degree [1st or 2.1 class] in cardiac physiology or a relevant scientific subject
* PG cert in Echocardiography or Clinical Physiology Degree
* BSE accreditation
* Will obtain RCCP accreditation as soon as possible
* RCCP accreditation
* ILS


Experience

* Able to work autonomously performing and reporting echocardiograms
* Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application in a healthcare setting.


Knowledge

* Ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of their own work and under the guidance of their Departmental Supervisors.
* Knowledge acquired through study and experience to formulate appropriate advice and judgements, including clinical judgements involving facts or situations that impact on patients.
* Good understanding of ethics and professional practice, the NHS constitution and the importance of patient-centred care.


Skills

* Highly developed co-ordination skills with good dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination and those skills required for the performance of fine analytical techniques.
* Good IT skills and knowledge of common computing packages for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages and databases.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both writing and speaking in English language
* Effective team worker
* Good active listening skills to build rapport with the listener to encourage an open discussion.
