Role Description
This is a full‑time design engineer (civils) role based in Wakefield. Responsibilities include creating technical designs for infrastructure and civil engineering projects, collaborating with project teams to ensure designs meet client requirements and regulatory standards, and producing detailed CAD drawings. The role also involves engineering calculations, reviewing project specifications and contributing to sustainable and cost‑effective solutions while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
* Work at the head office in Wakefield and on various sites.
* Perform and coordinate internal and external activities associated with civil and drainage design, in line with client specifications and design standards.
* Prepare design solutions at various stages of a project; prepare drawings, reports, specifications, calcs, and estimates; attend client meetings and check peer work for accuracy.
* Collaborate with a wide range of discipline inputs; monitor and protect client relationships; assist with planning and programming; manage commercial aspects and present projects for audit.
* Attend engineering expos and implement the latest technologies in the industry, staying up to date with developments.
* Maintain ongoing communication with relevant team leaders, senior managers, and clients when required to ensure effective communication on matters relevant to the project.
* Contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects and provide technical guidance to other team members, such as junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
* Work in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
* Develop innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and behaviour.
* Continuously develop professional knowledge in the industry and keep up to date with innovations and developments.
* Be familiar with, and comply with, relevant health & safety regulations and promote a culture of awareness within the team.
* Lead by example on site and implement best‑practice procedures within the team and site personnel.

* Maintain quality and environmental control procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 19650, and ISO 14001.
* Create and maintain good relationships with clients, design teams and neighbours, and other stakeholders.
Personal Attributes
* Qualified engineer, ideally chartered or a member of a relevant institution such as ICE.
* Suitable civil design experience in water treatment, drainage, clean water, and separation gained through working on infrastructure projects within the UK water sector.
* Knowledge of UK water industry and sewer sector guidance standards for drainage design.
* Experience with software design methods such as InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D; knowledge of BIM integration desirable.
* Technically competent in hydraulic design principles and able to apply manual calculation methods where software is unavailable; hydraulic profiling an advantage.
* Ability to design slabs and concrete hardstandings.
* Full UK driving licence.
