Overview

Do you have a passion for developing staff and ensuring high standards of quality care are at the core of clinical practice? Do you want to lead on delivering training to both new and existing staff to ensure that they deliver patient centred care that is clinically effective and safe?

We are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist who is enthusiastic about teaching and supporting staff to grow their career within this setting. The role is crucial in enabling staff to deliver high quality care and there is a clear focus on working alongside staff in the clinical areas. The successful candidate will work closely with the Therapy leadership team to lead on workforce developments including preceptorship, in-service training, therapy boot camp, Apprenticeships, Induction, students, development roles, review of competencies and job descriptions. This role is based with the inpatient therapies team, and involves collaboration with staff in the enablement centre, rehab team and hand therapy team.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in an acute hospital setting, excellent time management, the ability to meet deadlines, and be adaptable and personable. They should be able to work autonomously, feel confident teaching colleagues, and lead and implement change. The role reports to the Therapies leadership team.


Responsibilities

* Work clinically, predominantly in a teaching/mentoring capacity. Registered Physiotherapists are expected to participate in the Respiratory on-call rota, including overnight (until 10pm) and weekend working, and contribute to seven-day working in a relevant clinical area.
* Lead the development, planning and delivery of education, training and professional development for the therapies team, including preceptorship, boot camp and apprenticeships.
* Plan and coordinate all student placements, providing ongoing support to students and educators during placements.
* Oversee staff induction, probation and capability processes; coordinate a structured local induction programme and ensure competencies and Personal Development Plans are in place and reviewed.
* Induct international recruits and return-to-practice staff, supporting their orientation to the NHS and local needs, including pastoral support where required.
* Identify education, training and development needs in collaboration with clinical teams and therapy managers, and develop a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for the department.
* Work with CPD and L&D teams to allocate funds in line with the TNA and manage training records in accordance with Trust protocols.
* Provide clinical teaching to OT, PT and TI staff, ensuring training is well designed and that supervision, mentoring and feedback are provided.
* Ensure training meets standards of professional accreditation, higher education institutes and other bodies (e.g., OFSTED), and is aligned with evidence-based practice.
* Identify resources or facilities required for staff training and assist in defining training standards for therapies staff/services.
* Coordinate in-house therapy training (e.g., manual handling, mental capacity and cognition) with senior clinician support.
* Support peer group leads in arranging meetings and ensuring actions are completed; provide supervision and mentorship within clinical competency; provide constructive feedback and reports to management as required.
* Support newly registered staff with 1:1 clinical time where necessary; maintain confidentiality and provide professional judgments and feedback on staff capabilities; document evidence for personal files.
* Maintain effective communication to ensure training needs are met, recorded and monitored; promote a learning-rich environment and establish channels for staff to raise training needs.
* Lead on reviewing and updating clinical competencies from band 2–7 to ensure skills meet service needs.


Qualifications and Experience

Education, Training and Qualifications
Essential

* HCPC Registration
* Degree in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy
* Masters degree or equivalent experience
* Evidence of CPD
* Student educator

Desirable
* Leadership qualification

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

* Comprehensive knowledge of Therapy processes in the acute setting
* Evidence of providing clinical training to OT/Physio staff
* Experience of supervising staff
* Experience in an acute setting
* Experience of providing feedback

Desirable
* Experience of creating and implementing IST

Skills

* Effective communication with clinical staff and management
* Ability to work autonomously and seek guidance when needed
