This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems will be beneficial.
Working within our Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate, you will influence how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net zero carbon commitments.
You will be part of a team that manages, develops and maintains our electrical engineering standards, including safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems in assets such as pumping stations, water management, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
You will help develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment. You will also hold a national incident response role that may be outside normal working hours.

Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and support across the organisation.
* Develop, deliver and maintain electrical engineering standards and safety rules.
* Maintain competency and skills guidance for electrical work.
* Respond to national incident response calls as required.
* Champion diversity and inclusion within the team.
Qualifications
* Good knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience developing Safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Experience testing and isolating high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
