Overview
This is an opportunity to work within the Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OGN) Team within the Colposcopy and Fast Track Service. The post is for Medical Secretaries to provide an efficient, high quality and comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to a team of consultants, supporting direct clinical care and wider non-clinical duties. The successful candidate should be methodical, well organized, and flexible, with a commitment to the Trust PROUD values and patient confidentiality. Previous secretarial or administrative experience is desirable, and effective computer skills plus experience with a hospital computer system are essential.
Understanding of national cancer and 18 week Referral to Treatment targets is important, as this will be a primary responsibility to ensure patients receive treatment in line with these targets.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with the medical secretary team to provide seamless support to medical and nursing staff in your area of responsibility.
* Provide a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to a team of Gynaecology Consultants and the department.
* Act as the first point of contact for patients, relatives, carers, GPs, consultants, medical staff, and other health bodies, using judgment to establish priority and validity of contact.
Type patient correspondence and accurately maintain records of patient correspondence.
* Maintain an effective investigation tracking system to ensure outstanding tests are followed up; communicate abnormal results to the relevant person and arrange follow up.
* Ensure patients are managed through their care pathways quickly and efficiently by chasing results and booking outpatient appointments in a timely manner.
* Manage workload with attention to detail and escalate capacity or target issues as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Methodical, well organized, and flexible with a commitment to confidentiality.
* Background in an administrative setting; previous secretarial experience is advantageous.
* Effective computer skills; experience of using a hospital computer system is desirable.
* Understanding of national cancer targets and 18 week RTT targets.
