About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. Based in North Birmingham, this hybrid role offers a mix of remote and office-based working. The successful candidate will support the finance function with day-to-day accounting tasks and month-end processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts
* Support with accruals, prepayments, and journal entries
* Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts
* Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate coding of transactions
* Assist with VAT returns and other statutory reporting
* Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve queries
* Support the Finance Manager with ad hoc reporting and analysis
* Contribute to process improvements and system updates
Requirements
* Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role
* Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks)
* AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA/CIMA (preferred)
* Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
