Job Responsibilities
* Participate in the integrated midwifery model within community and acute settings, working shifts including day and night to provide a 24/7 service.
* Maintain accurate, clear, and contemporaneous records of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care using the SBAR process.
* Deliver and uphold high standards of evidence-based midwifery practice for women and birthing people in the designated clinical area.
* Develop and maintain specialist knowledge relevant to the clinical area.
* Engage with women, birthing people, and their families to promote holistic, individualized care addressing physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs.
* Provide support and advice following pregnancy loss.
* Ensure the safe use of medicines in accordance with hospital policy and NMC guidelines, including medicines management and exemptions.
* Protect and safeguard children, with awareness of child protection procedures.
* Serve as a reference regarding health education and social care.
* Act as a practice supervisor and/or assessor for student midwives.
* Undertake clinical procedures such as cannulation and IV medication administration.
Additional Responsibilities
Support the ongoing development of maternity staff and foster a culture of learning. Deputize for the Band 7 in their absence and provide clinical skills training within educational and clinical settings.
This role involves providing clinical care across all maternity departments, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, in community, midwife-led, and consultant-led settings, as well as transitional care. Continuity of care will be offered as per the service model.
The midwife will support students and team members, working autonomously within the trust in line with departmental guidelines and NMC standards, ensuring safe and individualized care.
