Working as part of the Eastern Pathology Alliance, based at the James Paget University Hospital, Great Yarmouth, you will work within a cutting edge Laboratory encompassing Specimen Reception, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Specimen Reception team within the Blood Science Spoke Laboratory at the James Paget University Hospital. The successful candidate will perform pre-analytical tasks that contribute to the delivery of the pathology service to the James Paget University Hospital and sample preparation for services performed by NNUH. You will work closely with clinicians, assist and support the multi-disciplinary team in delivering a timely and high quality service to our users.
Knowledge of computers is a requirement. Essential qualities we require are an ability to work within a team, good communication skills and an ability to work unsupervised. You must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, be flexible and adaptable and show that you are motivated and willing to develop your knowledge and skill.
Responsibilities
* To support the effective, consistent and efficient running of Spoke Blood Sciences services.
* Perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within Specimen Reception and relevant laboratory areas.
* Obtain samples for biological testing, perform standard biological tests, and process blood and other fluids for analysis ensuring sample integrity is maintained at all times.
* Use Pathology IT systems daily with a high level of accuracy and speed when inputting patient demographic and test data.
* Ensure that all duties within the service are carried out in accordance with Trust and Departmental policies.
Qualifications and requirements
* Knowledge of computers is required.
* Ability to work within a team and communicate effectively.
* Ability to work unsupervised, under pressure, and to meet deadlines.
* Flexible and adaptable with motivation to develop knowledge and skills.
