The Motor Transport (MT) Controller is responsible to the Station Staff Officer (SSO) Kineton Support Unit (KNU) via the Regiment Quartermaster Sergeant (RQMS) for the efficient allocation and control of the White Fleet (WF) vehicle fleet, enabling staff form resident Units; Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) and Defence Munitions (DM) to meet operation requirements. Key Responsibilities: The efficient day-to-day management of the MT which includes both the Admin and Details Office and the allocation of duties to the drivers (both military and civilian). Responsible to the RQMS for the efficient supervision of the MT as directed and in accordance with current policy. The authorisation of transport requests, the allocation of control numbers and transport to meet the demand by the most effective way to meet requirements, which may include liaison with other Station sub units. Checking that all details are authorised in line with policy and work tickets are properly completed and signed. The allocation of vehicles and drivers to meet transport requests, including the hire in of vehicles to meet transport demands. Conduct checks on all hire vehicles both on delivery and return to ensure that all damage is recorded. Ensuring that all drivers hold a valid driving licence and Form Motor Transport (FMT) on the MyDrive system and that all drivers comply with current appropriate regulations concerning vehicles and drivers hours. The production of the Drivers Daily Detail Sheet including Duty Driver. Ensuring that all vehicles are first and last paraded by the drivers. Monitoring vehicle mileage to ensure that they are delivered to Workshops for the appropriate service. The maintenance of necessary driving and vehicle records to provide weekly, monthly and annual returns and other information as required. Operation of local Information Systems equipment required and the control of MT leave roster. Driving duties as required. Any other tasks commensurate with the grade as directed by the Line Manager or Countersigning Officer. This post is liable for additional training and the post holder may be expected to work additional hours to meet exercise/operational needs as and when required time will be taken back in lieu of this. Essential Skills Required: A level of physically fitness as there is a deal of manual handling, involved in this position transferring materials to and from vehicles You will hold a current category B driving licence as you shall be required to drive vehicles both on site and occasionally to and from Contractors for repair. Be able to build good working relationships with a variety of partners, both internal and external to the organisation and be able to provide support to a wide range of people of different backgrounds You will be able to communicate clearly and effectively Have good Information Technology skills, including basic Microsoft Office 365 and other MS Software products You will be able use initiative to prioritise workload to meet changing priorities Desirable Skills: Experience managing and controlling vehicle fleets Previous employment within the Ministry of Defence (MoD). They normally last between 12 months - 3 years, de-pending on the level of the apprenticeship. Successful candidates can discuss their development options with their manager when in post. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
