Senior Lawyer – Civil Litigation
Up to £60,000 (DOE)
We are recruiting a Senior Lawyer to join a busy and wide-ranging Civil Litigation team within a large public sector legal service. The role offers genuine breadth, ongoing professional variety and the opportunity to work on high-profile matters that have real impact across the organisation and the wider community.
The Role
As Senior Lawyer, you will provide high-quality advice and representation across a broad litigation caseload. The work is varied and intellectually engaging, spanning both claimant and defendant matters and requiring a strong understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and public law processes. Your remit will include:
* Managing your own caseload of civil litigation matters, including complex issues
* Overseeing and progressing cases across the wider litigation team
* Working with specialists across the service to deliver clear, risk-aware advice
* Contributing to the continuous development of a high-performing litigation function
You will join a team that values collaboration and open communication. Subject matter experts are already in place across many practice areas, so while broad experience is helpful, you won’t be expected to be an expert in every field. The focus is on sound judgement, confident litigation handling and the ability to keep complex matters moving.
The team handles a diverse mix of civil litigation, including: housing disrepair, debt recover, housing litigation, prosecutions, trading standards, property litigation and commercial litigation.
This variety makes the role ideal for a lawyer who enjoys working across several practice areas and partnering closely with operational services.
About You

* Strong civil litigation experience and confident CPR knowledge
* Exposure to public law, including judicial review or tribunal matters
* The ability to handle sensitive and high-profile cases
* A practical, solutions-focused approach
* Clear communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
Public sector experience is helpful but not essential. High-quality private practice candidates with relevant backgrounds are very welcome.
Benefits
* Salary of £52,415 to £60,030 (DOE)
* Local Government Pension Scheme with a competitive employer contribution
* Hybrid working and flexible hours to support work-life balance
* Generous annual leave, with the option to purchase more
* Family-friendly policies including enhanced parental leave
* Employee Assistance Programme offering professional and personal support
* Opportunities for ongoing professional development and career progression
