Our work involves engagement with a diverse range of people and organisations, from small landowners and wood businesses to large corporations and public bodies. We are seeking a dynamic individual who learns quickly to provide technical support to our Woodland Officers, Woodland Creation Officers, and Field Managers. The post holder will be required to:
1. Casework Facilitation
Provide technical support to the North West and West Midlands Field Team to help optimise their skills and knowledge:
* Prepare electronic Forestry Commission case files on the local network, including SharePoint.
* Download applications for various schemes.
* Work with the National Office on scheme changes and communicate updates to the field teams.
* Prepare template documentation for the Field Team.
* Prepare supporting information to ensure Woodland Officers' field inspection time is optimised.
* Support Woodland Officers in consultations with statutory consultees on schemes such as Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
* Maintain a 'rolling' progress report including local Trackers on all casework for Field Managers; support Field Managers in uploading approved case files.
* Create local reports to meet operational needs.
* Maintain a year-to-date report for Area Directors and Operations Managers.
* Update and keep Forestry Commission National Office or Area Team local trackers current during the life of the grant, including regular audits for data accuracy.
2. Support the field team with updates to Forester GIS (the Forestry Commission internal mapping system).
3. Support the field team with updates to national regulations and process changes.
4. Felling License and Restocking Notice compliance inspections
Assist in preparing files for Woodland Officers to undertake these inspections and support the area in meeting National Office deadlines.
5. Support a review and reorganization of electronic filing of Grant and Regulations records and information for the area team.
6. Provide basic admin support, including dealing with queries from the public regarding tree felling and felling licenses.
While most of the work is administrative, this role offers an opportunity to learn about how trees, woods, and forestry contribute to environmental, social, and economic benefits, and how government supports this.
