Job description
MI5, MI6 and GCHQ are the UK's Intelligence Services. We work together to safeguard Britain's people, interests and businesses from various threats at home, overseas and online, including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. Working across our vital missions, you'll deliver impact at the heart of national security, all within a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to thrive.
The next role that will be going live will be for Admin Officer for MI5 in Cheltenham and London on Monday 27th October 2025 at 10am.
Joining us in an Administrative role at either MI5, MI6 or GCHQ means you'll be providing the vital administrative service behind the UK's Intelligence Services. You could be gathering information, writing reports, managing databases, arranging meetings and travel, or supporting intelligence operations - you'll work as part of a friendly, collaborative team enabling our organisations to function.
In whichever role you join us, you'll receive dedicated training and development; whether you're seeking your first professional role or looking to bring your existing experience somewhere new, you'll receive all the support you need to grow and enjoy a uniquely rewarding career.
We recruit for these roles on a regular basis, so this is an opportunity to register your interest in applying to one of these roles. Whilst the next role coming up is Admin Officer in Cheltenham and London for MI5, we encourage you to complete this registration if you are interested in similar roles at GCHQ or MI6 in other locations. You'll have the opportunity to specify this on the form. Doing so means you'll be notified as soon as applications open for any of these options. Submitting a registration of interest also means you'll be invited to any online events we hold prior to applications opening.
We'd particularly encourage people from Black, Asian or other ethnic minority backgrounds* to register their interest for these roles. There's no 'type' of person we recruit, however we recognise these groups are currently underrepresented in our workforce. We value a culture where different insights, perspectives and experiences are welcomed – and where you'll always be encouraged to contribute, shape our work and be yourself.
We will be holding two online Insight Events on Thursday 23rd October at 12:30pm and 5pm where you will be able to learn more about the role and a Skills Event on Friday 24th October at 2pm which will provide general tips about completing a job application, preparing for an interview. If you meet the demographic criteria outlined above, as part of the registration of interest you'll receive an email which will be sent with further information ahead of the events.
* Please note the content of the Insight Events will be the same across both sessions, so you only need to attend one. Each session will last for one hour.
Before you Register
To work for us, you need to be a British citizen or hold dual British nationality. You can read our full eligibility criteria here:
These roles require the highest security clearance, known as Developed Vetting (DV). It's something everyone in the UK Intelligence Community undertakes. You can find out more about the vetting process here:
Please note that a registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply for a role will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.
* Please note that we are confining registrations of interest to these groups only, due to their current under-representation in our workforce. Once the application window has opened, we welcome applications from all candidates, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, disability and/or any other protected characteristic(s).
All applications will be assessed solely on merit.
