An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious individual to join Arriva as Engineering Manager t o work in a newly refurbished garage full of new Electric vehicles.
This role will be covering our Croydon and Thornton Heath depots and we are seeking an experienced candidate who has demonstrable experience of running a fleet which has a large number of fully electric vehicles in it.
Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for the overall management of the engineering department, and will also have full budgetary responsibility.

The role will involve:
7. Managing all engineering, stores and cleaning staff at the garage, to include staffing levels meet targets and budget, recruitment of suitably qualified engineering staff, absence and performance management, ensuring communication is two-way, relevant and understood by all.
8. Directly responsible for an effective and efficient garage engineering operation in line with Company targets, including fleet management, availability/reliability, record maintenance, managing contractors.
9. Ensuring all premises, vehicles and garage staff adhere to the Health and Safety standards required by the Company and legislation.
10. Ensuring financial budgets and targets are met and improved on.
11. Having a strategic outlook on how to improve business performance, with awareness of competitor activity and maintaining a conducive and productive relationship with the Union.
Requirements:
12. Excellent communication skills
13. Knowledge of engineering procedures and health and safety legislation
14. Have good knowledge of engineering technical skills
15. Previous experience of developing and managing staff
16. Time served apprenticeship or demonstrable work history
17. Capable of demonstrating right first-time diagnosis and repair
18. Capable of carrying out Root Causes Analysis and enact effective solutions/repairs
19. High level of commercial awareness (focus on operational costs and efficiencies)
20. Understanding of an Oracle or similar operational data system where the data is used daily to improve performance and maintain cost levels in line with budget.
21. Bus or similar transport engineering background is essential
22. IEng / CMgr accreditation is desirable
23. Full UK driving license (6 points or less) is essential
24. Ability to pass fit for a PCV pre-employment medical is essential
