Would you like to work for the charity that cares for hundreds of historic sites in every corner of England? We are looking for a Visitor Assistant to join us at Stonehenge working 28.8 to 36 hours per week.
No history background? No problem. What is important to us is a passion for people and excellent customer service. You will enjoy working with others as part of a team and understand what makes excellent customer service to deliver an engaging visitor experience to a diverse audience.
Heritage is for everybody, and we are here for heritage.
Heritage lives in places and people, memories and stories, artefacts and traditions. It can connect us all to the past, and to each other. It can make us happier, strengthen every community, and help shape society for the better. Everybody should be able to enjoy the benefits it brings. That's why, as a charity, we care for over a million objects and hundreds of historic sites in every part of England, from international icons to local treasures. And it's why we open them up, share their stories and find new ways for everybody to enjoy, learn, play and create.
As a member of the site team at Stonehenge you will be joining a creative and dynamic team of employees and volunteers who have a passion for history, a genuine enthusiasm for engaging with visitors, and take pride in ensuring that everyone who visits our site has an outstanding visit. Providing an excellent visitor experience is at the heart of what we do - from explaining the site's history in the Exhibition, ensuring the safe transit of visitors on our bus platforms, to telling the story of Stonehenge, we want visitors to leave site inspired by Stonehenge and English Heritage. If you have a passion for history, a love of being outdoors, and desire to join a varied work environment where no two days are the same, then this is the role for you.
Working at Stonehenge is a great opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the creative, inclusive, and passionate team that we are so proud of. Through your engagement with our visitors you will play a key part in inspiring the next generation of history lovers, all whilst helping us to share the benefits of English Heritage membership with the many people we welcome onto site each year.
It is a varied role - some days will be busy from start to finish and others quieter, especially on the wetter days! Some paid or voluntary experience with the public is beneficial but full training and support is provided as part of your induction. You will be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays, more information will be provided at interview.
If this sounds like the role for you, we'd love to hear from you. If you have any questions about the role then please contact Elizabeth Purves, Operations Supervisor - Site, at Elizabeth.purves@english-heritage.org.uk
