Head of Design Reports to: Head of Project Management Office (PMO) Europe Responsible for: Team of 8, based across Portsmouth, London and Stockholm Based: Portsmouth (Lakeside, North Harbour) - minimum 60% Portsmouth office Contract Type: Permanent Hours: Full time What youll do in your role Youll lead and develop the European Design team in the delivery of design, production and graphics support for consultants across our London, Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Cologne offices. Aware of rising trends in design, including AI and digital design, youll bring creativity and innovative ideas to demonstrate the highest level of design capability and quality for our clients and foster efficiency in execution. Your leadership will both elevate the standing of the design team in the business, strengthening their brand and relationship with project teams, as well as ensure that the team is looking ahead to the future of design. Utilising your experience in project management and quality assurance, youll work closely with senior internal stakeholders to ensure that client expectations are met and exceeded in the region. Critically, youll take the design team along with you on that journey, raising the quality and efficiency of their work, and promoting engagement, ownership, and a sense of comradery. Its a busy time for BTS, theres a lot going on but that means no two days are the same and youll never be bored The key responsibilities of the role will be: Team Leadership Lead and inspire a high-performing team, fostering creativity, collaboration, and a client-centric mindset. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment while providing guidance and mentorship. Raise the profile of design within the region and build greater connections with key stakeholders in the business. Establish key performance metrics to provide monthly insights, translating data into actionable strategies for continuous improvement. Design Leadership Collaborate with Design colleagues globally and key stakeholders across the region to deliver and embed innovative and creative design solutions. Leading with a future-focussed design perspective, looking for ways to improve our work and impress our clients. Define and lead the standards in design for content heavy client solutions. Lead production management and stakeholder management for the design team to aid resourcing and scheduling. Foster an innovative environment that helps the Design team in Europe to capitalise on developments in digital and analytics technology, such as AI. Be the internal brand guardian. What we're looking for: Proven experience in art direction, preferably in a consultancy or professional services setting. Experience working in a multi-national environment. Adept at leading digital and creative specialists. A robust portfolio showcasing your creative vision, including print and digital design, branding, and integrated work. High level of proficiency in Adobe CC2024 (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), advanced knowledge of MS Office. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor creative teams. A deep understanding of visual storytelling, branding, and the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling visuals. Proven ability to work collaboratively with clients and cross-functional teams. Strong project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Naturally dynamic, pro-active, organised and personable with strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
