Overview

A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

This post is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to take on a senior role within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at UHCW NHS Trust. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with clinical colleagues, to deliver a comprehensive Obstetrics and Gynaecology service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire communities.

The post holder will be joining a high performing team, at a Centre which provides regional care across Obstetric, Gynaecological and Neonatal pathways. Alongside this the Department is heavily grounded in research and best practice with close links to the Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research based at UHCW and a fully integrate Centre for Reproductive Medicine.

The post holder will be based at the University Hospital, Coventry with outpatient clinic commitments at the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby and community support sites. There will be appropriate involvement in the administration and management functions of the Trust.

To provide, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, a comprehensive Obstetric and Gynaecological service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire area and expertise in antenatal and intrapartum care.

The post holder will join a team of West Midlands deanery senior and junior specialty trainees and provide cover on the Senior Registrar rota. This is a 12-month post starting as soon as possible. These posts offer the opportunity for trainees, who have achieved competencies at minimum ST4 level, to consolidate their clinical skills while working in a tertiary maternity unit. There will be opportunity to participate in ATSM skills modules if core competencies in logbook have been completed. These posts include out-of-hours duty, as part of a full shift 1B rota.

There will be on-call duties and a three-tier on-call system; the post holders will form part of this on-call rota with distribution as follows:

Twilight 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm (usually 5 in 8 weeks). Nights 8.30 pm – 09.00 am Monday to Thursday (1 in 8 weeks). Day weekend 8.30 am – 09.00 pm Friday to Sunday (1 in 8 weekends). Night weekend 8.30 pm – 09.00 am Friday to Sunday (1 in 8 weekends).

On-call time will be distributed on a weekly basis attending a variety of antenatal, gynaecology outpatients, obstetric or Gynaecology theatres, covering gynaecology emergencies or labour ward. The post holder will be part of a team and will be responsible to do ward rounds on their patients in that team and discuss with the relevant consultant.


Responsibilities

* Provide strong leadership to all disciplines and ensure, with the Modern Matrons that guidance is available to all staff within the obstetric areas.
* Provide dedicated support to the Obstetric wards and Fetal Wellbeing department.
* To work across disciplines to develop close working patterns, shared guidelines, education and joint standards throughout the department.
* To communicate openly and consult with clinicians, midwives, nurses and administrative staff on developments within obstetrics.
* To promote the culture of continuous learning and development, ensuring leadership in support of research, audit, education and training.
* Participation in Labour Ward Forum and Quality of Care forum and ensuring decisions taken are fed back to ensure that necessary changes are implemented.
* Facilitating skills drills and ensuring remedial action taken if deficiencies identified.
* Take ongoing responsibility for patients under his/her care during on call.
* Participate in the teaching and supervision of medical students and co-ordinate teaching sessions.
* Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.
* Develop and maintain good communications with General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
* Ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the trust’s performance and Annual Review system.
* Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers in compliance with current legislation.
* Comply with all relevant Trust policies and procedures.


Qualifications

* This post is for senior trainees joining the team; minimum competencies in logbook and relevant training pathways should be met (e.g., ST4 level) with opportunities to consolidate clinical skills in a tertiary maternity unit.
* There is an expectation to participate in ATSM skills modules if core competencies are completed.


Location and Additional Details

The post holder will be based at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust with outpatient commitments at the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby and community sites. There will be involvement in the administration and management functions of the Trust. The on-call rota is EWTD compliant with a three-tier system.
