Nursery Practitioner

Reports to: Room Leader / Deputy Manager / Nursery Manager


Purpose of the Role

To provide high-quality care and education for all children, supporting their learning and development in a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment.
Nursery Practitioners play a vital role in nurturing each child’s curiosity, confidence, and wellbeing while working collaboratively with the nursery team.


Key Responsibilities

* Deliver a warm, caring, and stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued, and supported.

* Plan and implement engaging activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

* Recognise and respond to each child’s individual needs, interests, and developmental stage.

* Act as a Key Person, building positive relationships with children and families.

* Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and colleagues, providing regular updates on children’s progress.

* Maintain excellent standards of health, safety, and hygiene throughout the setting.

* Keep accurate and up-to-date records, observations, and assessments for allocated children.

* Work collaboratively with team members to create a friendly, supportive, and professional atmosphere.

* Follow all nursery policies and procedures, including Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, and Confidentiality.

* Participate in training and continuous professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.


Principal Duties

1. Support the planning and delivery of age-appropriate activities that promote learning and development across all EYFS areas.

2. Observe, assess, and record children’s progress, sharing insights with parents and colleagues.

3. Promote positive behaviour and model respect, kindness, and inclusion at all times.

4. Ensure the environment and resources are clean, safe, and well-maintained.

5. Support children during daily routines, including mealtimes, rest, and outdoor play.

6. Follow safeguarding procedures and immediately report any concerns.

7. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and supervision meetings as required.

8. Support new staff, apprentices, and students on placement.

9. Contribute to the overall success and positive reputation of the nursery.


What You’ll Bring

* A genuine passion for working with young children.

* Strong understanding of child development and EYFS principles.

* Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

* Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm.

* A relevant Early Years qualification (e.g. Level 2 or Level 3).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
