Job Title: Deputy Head of Installations (Solar)

Location: Berkshire (Covering Home Counties and South East)

Salary: £45,000 - £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About Our Client

Our client is a well-established and respected renewable energy installer operating across the home counties and the South East. With a busy and growing pipeline of residential solar projects across Berkshire and the surrounding areas, they are looking for an experienced and qualified electrician to step into a senior leadership role. They currently have a team of 20+ installers and are seeking a Deputy Head of Installations to help manage, mentor, and coordinate the workforce. This is a key role for someone looking to take the next step in their career while staying close to the technical side of the business.

The Role

This is a dual-focused role that combines technical expertise with operational leadership. As Deputy Head of Installations, you will work closely with the Head of Installations to oversee the day-to-day activities of the installation teams. You will also be expected to conduct site surveys, ensure technical quality across projects, and step in to support installations when required. The ideal candidate is a qualified electrician with a strong background in solar PV who is ready to take on more responsibility and help shape the performance of a busy installation department.

Key Responsibilities

* Team Management: Assisting in the leadership and coordination of a team of 20+ installers and electricians. You will help allocate resources, monitor performance, and ensure teams are deployed efficiently across projects.
* Technical Quality & Compliance: Ensuring all installations meet the highest technical standards and comply with MCS regulations, IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition), and health and safety requirements. You will carry out quality audits and provide technical guidance to the teams.
* Site Surveys: Conducting detailed technical surveys on domestic properties to assess suitability for solar PV and battery storage systems. You will gather all necessary information for the design team and identify any potential installation challenges.
* Mentoring & Training: Supporting the development of installation staff, helping to upskill junior team members, and ensuring best practices are shared across the workforce.
* Problem Solving: Acting as the technical escalation point for installation teams on site, troubleshooting issues, and providing solutions to keep projects moving.
* Health & Safety: Championing a strong safety culture across the department, ensuring RAMS are followed, and supporting the Head of Installations in maintaining excellent H&S standards.

About You

Our client is looking for a qualified electrician who understands the residential solar sector inside out. You will have experience managing or supervising teams and be comfortable balancing office-based coordination with site-based technical work.

* Qualifications: You must be a qualified electrician with relevant certifications (NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, 18th Edition, and AM2 or equivalent). Additional qualifications in solar PV or renewable energy are highly desirable.
* Experience: Proven experience in the solar PV sector, with a strong understanding of domestic installations, battery storage systems, and DNO application processes (G98/G99). Experience supervising or managing installation teams is essential.
* Surveying Skills: Confident and competent in conducting detailed site surveys, identifying technical risks, and gathering accurate data for system design.
* Leadership: A natural leader who can motivate teams, delegate effectively, and handle the pressures of a busy installation schedule. You will be approachable and respected by the teams you manage.
* Organisation: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate multiple projects, and ensure deadlines are met.
* Location & Logistics: You will be based in or around Berkshire and comfortable travelling to sites across the home counties. A full UK driving licence is essential.

What's on Offer

* A competitive salary package commensurate with experience (£45,000 - £70,000).
* The opportunity to play a key leadership role in a growing, reputable installer.
* A varied role combining technical work, surveys, and team management.
* A supportive working environment with scope for further career progression.
* Company pension scheme.
