Offer description

About the Role GSL Education is delighted to be partnering with a dynamic and inclusive secondary school in Gosport, part of a respected multi-academy trust, to recruit a Learning Support Assistant (LSA). This is a full-time, term-time-only role working Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm. As an LSA, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the school, helping to ensure that every learner can access the ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum with carefully adapted provision for learners who need additional help. You will work closely with class teachers, the SEND team, and the pastoral staff to support students both academically and socially. Duties may include: Supporting in-class learning through differentiation, scaffolding, and prompt – working one-to-one or in small groups. Assisting with interventions (e.g., reading, social skills, emotional regulation) under the guidance of the SENCo or qualified practitioners. Supervising students during unstructured times (breaks, lunchtimes) or in quiet areas to provide social and emotional support. Helping prepare resources, adapt materials, and contribute to accessible learning environments. Monitoring and feeding back on student progress, behaviour, and engagement to both teachers and SEND leaders. Being part of safeguarding and inclusion work and collaborating with external agencies when necessary. Why This School? This is a school on an exciting journey of improvement, committed to raising standards, enhancing behaviour and attitudes, and strengthening pastoral support. The school is deeply inclusive, valuing every student and offering tailored support through its SEND team, which includes accredited SENCos, specialist assessors, and trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA). Through their Foundations for Gosport Futures framework, the school deliberately builds character, resilience, and life skills, helping students prepare not just for exams but for the world beyond school. About You – What Makes a Great Candidate Ideal candidates for this LSA role typically: Have experience working with children or young people, especially those with SEND (e.g., in education, youth work, care settings). Demonstrate patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills. Are confident communicators and good team players, willing to collaborate with teachers, SENCos, and pastoral staff. Are organised, reliable, and able to manage changing priorities in a busy school environment. Have a genuine belief in inclusion and in supporting all students to thrive. In terms of personality, the school is looking for someone who is: Enthusiastic and outgoing: You bring energy, warmth, and positivity into the classroom. Resilient: You are ready to face challenges with a calm, problem-solving mindset. Supportive yet proactive: You don’t just respond, you anticipate and help shape interventions. Compassionate: You care deeply about students’ welfare, emotional needs, and personal growth. Who Typically Succeeds in This Role Graduates or students studying education, psychology, or related disciplines, looking for grounding in a school setting. Experienced support staff (from special schools, mainstream schools, or care settings) who want a supportive yet challenging environment. Individuals making a mid-career move who have transferable skills (e.g., mentoring, youth work, pastoral care). Those passionate about inclusion, equity, and making a real difference in the lives of young people. How GSL Education Supports You As a candidate placed by GSL Education, you’ll benefit from: A dedicated, experienced consultant with deep knowledge of the education sector. Guidance from application through interview, offer, and onboarding. Support in understanding the school's culture, ethos, and SEND provision.
