Neuropathology
We are looking for a biomedical / laboratory support worker with previous experience in an NHS diagnostic histopathology laboratory to work alongside qualified scientists and office staff.
You will undertake the technical support roles in the neuropathology laboratory and support the training and development of new staff. You will need good communication skills, be able to pay attention to detail, be enthusiastic, well motivated and professional.

Main duties of the job
Laboratory tasks are performed at bench height standing or sitting at tall draughtsman seats.
Tasks include:
1. Specimen reception duties receipt and sorting of specimens which range from small pots to large buckets computer data entry
2. Supporting the training and development of new staff
3. General laboratory duties replacing / disposing of chemicals on laboratory machines -moving of litre containers using a trolley and fume cupboard daily maintenance on machines making stock solutions of chemicals general stock control of laboratory consumables - ordering, receiving, delivering (requires movement of supplies weighing up to kilos using cages and a trolley, placing them in relevant stores)
4. Specimen disposal (human tissue for diagnosis)
5. Scanning of paperwork, scanning of histology slides for digital pathology
6. Filing and retrieving slides, tissue blocks and specimens according to regulations
