Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic consultant paediatrician with expertise in community child health to help deliver a highly-regarded service for children in Manchester. The post is working 7 PAs. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, forward-looking and well-established team of Consultant Community Paediatricians providing citywide community paediatric services across Manchester. The service works closely with other community health services including community children's nursing, health visiting, school nursing, and physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy. It provides services in partnership with acute hospital services, the local authority, voluntary organisations and other agencies that provide health and social care to meet the health needs of local communities. The Community Paediatric Service is part of the Division of Manchester Children's Community Health in the Manchester Local Care Organisation, which is part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Community Paediatric Service provides a citywide community paediatric service from an office base near Manchester city centre. The post holder will be clinically and managerially responsible to the Clinical Director, who reports to the Clinical Head of Division for CCHS for the community aspects of the work.

Eligibility Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration. MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for candidates who are offered permanent vacancies.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will provide a paediatric service to children living in Manchester including: assessment of children with developmental delay and disability; working as part of an MDT for the Social Communication Pathway; responsibility for Adoption clinics; assessment of looked after children and children protection. Also, preparation of statutory reports for Social Services and Special Educational Needs and Disability; and attendance at review and planning meetings as required.

Person specification

* Clinical experience
o Experience of working with children with developmental delay and disability
o Experience working in NHS
o Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)
* Desirable
o Experience of adoption and fostering
o Experience of child protection medicals
o Experience of initial health assessments for looked after children
o Experience of social communication pathway/autism
* Qualifications and Training
o MRCPCH or equivalent
o Full and specialist registration with the GMC (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
o UK-trained applicants must have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award; non-UK trained must show equivalence to UK CCT
o Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training

o MD, PhD or other higher degree
* Academic/Management
o Teach/train all grades of professional staff
o Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence and decision making
o Understanding of management issues including medical management, clinical governance and clinical risk
