Apheresis Sister/Charge Nurse
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our specialist Apheresis Service. This role is part of one of the UK’s leading cancer and bone marrow transplant centres.
As an Apheresis Sister you will provide skilled autonomous practice in apheresis procedures, including stem cell harvest, leukapheresis, plasmapheresis and red cell exchange. You will be a core member of the multidisciplinary team, supporting patients and families through complex treatment pathways and contributing to a high‑quality, seamless service.

Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate day‑to‑day service delivery and on‑call urgent and emergency apheresis service.
* Ensure safe operational standards and compliance with JACIE and HTA requirements.
* Collaborate with the Quality Manager on policy and protocol development.
* Assist in the evaluation of outcomes to shape future service improvements.
* Support the development of nurse‑led practice and deliver an excellent patient experience across the apheresis pathway.
* Work closely with haematology consultants, CNS colleagues, transplant coordinators, laboratory partners at NHSBT, and inpatient and day unit teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
* Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma).
* Registered nurse on the appropriate part of the register.
* Significant post‑registration experience and training in a relevant speciality.
* Ward management experience.
* Experience in an acute hospital setting.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in handling adverse events and complaints.
* Appraisal skills.
We are seeking a nurse who
* Has strong clinical experience in haematology, oncology or transfusion‑related care.
* Is competent in cannulation, venepuncture and central venous catheter management.
* Has a passion for delivering excellent patient care and supporting service development.
* Is confident to practice autonomously and work across professional boundaries.
* Is committed to ongoing learning, teaching and contributing to clinical governance.
