A leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a major wastewater and environmental infrastructure upgrade is seeking an experienced Section Engineer to support the final construction phases of a large sewer network improvement programme. This project is significantly enhancing flood resilience across the Stroud Five Valleys area, including the installation of new enlarged sewer pipelines, a 25m‑deep CSO shaft tank, surface‑water separation works and multiple tunnelling and open‑cut sections.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will play a critical part in coordinating and deliveringplex civil engineering packages, including:
Engineering & Technical Delivery
1. Providing accurate setting‑out for pipelines, shafts, temporary works, excavations, and canal‑side activities.
2. Supporting the management of multiple sub‑projects, including:Turning off flows and redirecting sewage during construction phases.Demolition activities associated with sewer diversions and shaft works.Works in and around the canal, where tunnelling drives and reinstatement activities are planned.
3. Ensuring engineering works align with design specifications, environmental controls, and site constraints.
Quality, Assurance & Tier 1 Standards
4. Assisting with quality management, including ITPs, check sheets, and as‑built records.
5. Maintainingpliance with environmental and safety standards, including sensitive ecology and watercourse protection measures.
Safety & Permitting
6. Issuing and managing permits to dig, permits to work, hot works, confined spaces, and flow‑management controls.
7. Supporting deep‑excavation works, tunnelling interfaces, and CSO‑shaft operations in accordance with major‑project safety protocols.
Coordination &munication
8. Working closely with Section Managers, Supervisors, temporary works teams, and specialist subcontractors.
9. Contributing to programme planning, technical problem‑solving, and progress monitoring.
Essential Requirements
10. HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
11. Strong background in major civils, water infrastructure, pipelines, deep excavation, or tunnelling.
12. Proficiency in setting‑out using GPS/Total Station.
13. Experience with Tier 1 quality systems, engineering paperwork, and permit management.
14. CSCS card and solid understanding of UK construction safety standards.
