Research Assistant/Associate in Vision for Robotics (Fixed Term)
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 June 2026. Applications are invited for a PDRA to join the Prorok Lab in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK.
Responsibilities
* Work across several projects, interfacing with students and research collaborators to develop and implement vision processing algorithms that enable robust robot tracking and autonomy.
* Design, implement, and deploy computer vision systems onto real robots for tasks such as tracking, 3D reconstruction, object recognition, and visual SLAM.
* Lead in-field testing and deployments across a team of PhD students, researchers, and postdocs; develop robust, scalable systems for real-world and outdoor settings.
* Collaborate with teams to push beyond assumptions used in controlled environments and contribute to practical robotic solutions.
Qualifications and profile
* Excellent implementation skills with substantial experience in real robot deployments and vision system integration.
* PhD required for Appointment at Research Associate level; candidates who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level with adjustment to Research Associate once the PhD is awarded.
* Self-motivated, research-oriented, and capable of bringing real robotic systems up and running.
About the department and team
The Prorok Lab at the Department of Computer Science and Technology has a range of aerial and ground robotic platforms and expertise in deploying and coordinating them. Our work includes RL and graph neural networks (GNNs) as part of our research directions.
Compensation and terms
Base salary with an additional 2.5% supplement to the pay for this post.
