Head of Engineering (Mobile & Web Applications)
London (4 days/week in office), up to £200,000 + generous equity
We’re hiring an experienced Head of Engineering to join a fast-scaling start-up at the forefront of mobile and web application development for the hospitality industry. Backed by Series A+ funding and experiencing rapid growth, this company is building cutting-edge, customer-facing platforms that are transforming the way the industry operates.
As Head of Engineering, you'll be responsible for leading and scaling high-performing teams, eliminating blockers, and fostering a culture of technical and personal excellence. You’ll be joining a small, agile organization where your impact will be immediate, and your leadership style will shape how engineering grows alongside the business.
This role is ideal for someone currently working in a start-up or scale-up as possibly a CTO or Head of Engineering, accustomed to the pace, ambiguity, and innovation required in small agile environments. You’ll need to be as passionate about team health and growth as you are about delivering robust, scalable technology.
Key Responsibilities
* Team Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and support a team of 15–20 engineers. Provide pastoral care and champion a supportive team culture that brings out the best in each individual.
* Agile Delivery: Operate within a fast-moving, agile setup, driving consistent delivery while removing blockers and bottlenecks across the development lifecycle.
* Code Quality & Best Practices: Oversee code reviews, encourage high-quality engineering standards, and ensure technical excellence throughout the team.
* Product Development: Guide the engineering team in delivering scalable, high-performance mobile and web applications using technologies like Django and Flutter.
* Full-Stack Oversight: Ensure end-to-end technical delivery, from intuitive front-end interfaces to robust back-end systems and cloud infrastructure.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Design, and Marketing teams to align engineering output with business objectives and user needs.
* Technical Strategy: Contribute to broader technical strategy, team structure, and engineering processes as the company continues to grow.
What We’re Looking For
* Start-up DNA: Experience working in a high-growth start-up or scale-up environment, ideally in a company focused on mobile or web applications. The ideal person will come from a background of working within small, fast-moving organizations.
* Technical Breadth: Strong hands-on experience across both frontend and backend development, ideally with Python, Django OR Flutter, plus hands-on use of AWS.
* People-First Leadership: A track record of mentoring, supporting, and enabling engineering teams to thrive, balancing performance with well-being.
* Agile Experience: Currently working within a small, fast-moving agile organization where you’re used to wearing multiple hats and moving quickly.
* Team Management at Scale: Experience managing engineering teams of 15–20 people, identifying and resolving blockers, and maintaining delivery momentum.
