Advanced Cardiac Cath Lab Radiographer –Band 7

Due to service expansion, Cardiac Imaging at Bart’s Heart and Thorax Centre (BHTC) are currently seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic Advanced Cardiac Cath Lab Radiographer who is looking for the opportunity to join a friendly, hard-working, ambitious and highly skilled team of Radiographers within the largest Cardiovascular Centre in Europe.

The department boasts a wealth of state-of-the-art equipment, with eleven Cardiac Catheter Labs and endovascular theatre, three dedicated Cardiac MRI scanners and a dedicated photon counting Cardiac CT scanner, and are networking and expanding our services across the Trust.

Advanced Cardiac Cath Lab experience and knowledge is essential for this post. The job role is based within Cardiac Catheter labs where you will cover cases in complex coronary intervention, structural heart intervention, electrophysiology and pacing, as well as cases in the cardiothoracic theatre, with the potential for progression to Cardiac CT and Cardiac CMR.

Main duties of the job

BHTC runs a popular lucrative on-call system to cover the out-of-hours Heart Attack and Arrhythmia services. The working pattern within the department is comprised of 4x 9.5hr shifts per week, with the flexibility to request a specific day off each week, with optional weekend lists on staff bank.

We are proud to lead the way in world-first procedures and undertake a large amount of ground-breaking research and live broadcasting of cases for educational meetings and congresses, with plenty of opportunities to get involved. We support and encourage our Radiographers to be involved in publishing research and representing us at conferences both in the UK and around the World.

As part of this fast paced and exciting role, you would be working as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team, offering life-changing and often life-saving diagnosis and treatment to patients from around London and beyond. You will be expected to lead and coordinate the day to day running of the department and deputise for the Modality Lead Radiographers and the Operational Lead Radiographers in their absence.

Essential criteria

1. BSc or Diploma in Radiography
2. HCPC State Registration

Desirable criteria

3. Post Graduate specialist training equivalent to Master’s level.

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Demonstrable evidence of expert cardiac cath lab radiographic experience.
5. Evidence of advanced knowledge in cardiac Cath Lab imaging/ procedure.
6. Experience of working with junior staff and students.

Desirable criteria

7. Experience in perusing innovation and role development in cardiac cath lab radiography.
8. Experience in more than one hospital.
9. Evidence of experience of first line management

Knowledge

Essential criteria

10. Portfolio of evidence of advanced professional development/training and education for cardiac cath lab radiography. This may include post graduate specialist training equivalent to Master’s level
11. Evidence that knowledge of cardiac cath lab imaging techniques is up to date.
12. Evidence of the ability to critically analyse cardiac radiography practice and role development/training potential.

Skills

Essential criteria

13. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
14. Advanced knowledge in a range of Cardiac Cath Lab Imaging techniques and innovations.
15. Demonstrate awareness of responsibility to and advocacy for patients.
16. Teaching and training skills with the ability to adapt training and teaching styles in response to needs of the trainee.
17. Team player with enthusiasm for Cardiac Radiography, with the ability to engage staff at all levels.
18. PACS, RIS and CRS knowledge and experience.
19. IT skills, with advanced levels of understanding of Microsoft office.
20. Demonstrate enthusiasm and have the ability to motivate others.
21. Ability to work under pressure whilst subject to interruption.
22. Willingness to embrace new ideas and concepts.
23. Very high personal and radiographic standards, with attention to detail.
24. Ability to use own initiative, solve problems and make decisions.
25. Evidence of participation in QA Programme and maintenance of agreed standards.
26. Good Understanding of legislation relating to Health & Safety, Magnet Safety.

Other

Essential criteria

27. Requirement to work full time (37.5hrs), 4 x 9.5hr shifts, with 1 rota’d day off per week
28. Requirement to work some late duties, participate in the out of hours on call rota and weekend waiting list initiatives as required.
29. Requirement to be able to manage own workload and diary.
30. Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptions
