Main duties of the job
1. As part of this role, you will be expected to work effectively within the midwifery and multi-disciplinary team and collaborate and communicate effectively in the clinical area.
2. You will undertake in-house training and development whilst mentoring junior staff new to the department. In addition the Trust provides excellent opportunities and benefits to our world-class workforce and offers a wide range of staff benefits that can be enjoyed either at work or elsewhere.
3. You should be expected to undertake multiple duties such as the following; providing advice and supporting women with infant feeding,
4. Undertaking competently a range of clinical skills such as taking and recording of observations, providing patient education, venipuncture and newborn blood spot screening.

Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
5. Completed Care Certificate or equivalent experience
6. Able to demonstrate literacy, numeracy and communication skills in English to carry out the duties of the role (known as functional skills), or GCSE or equivalent experience
7. Bedside Emergency Assessment Course for HCA’s (BEACH) or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
8. Further qualifications and training relevant and required by the speciality of this post
9. Level 2 or 3 Health Care qualification/apprenticeship, or completion of Band 3 Excellence in Care
10. Competencies for existing Band 2 substantive HCSW
Experience
Essential criteria
11. Experience of working in Acute Hospital setting or care background, in a Band 2 HCSW role or equivalent
12. Experience of delivering personal care to patients
13. Experience of using computers or willing to undertake training in local computer systems
Desirable criteria
14. Experience of taking clinical observations
Skills
Essential criteria
15. Evidence of using one’s own initiative
16. Awareness of risks, identifying them and alerting appropriate personnel
17. Knowledge of basic IT systems or willing to undertake training
18. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of data protection and health and safety issues
