Overview
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. The Army is a major part of the Ministry of Defence, employing around 12,000 Civil Servants at over 300 locations, supporting the 110K regular and reserve soldiers. The Infantry Battle School (IBS) trains over 3,000 students annually, including Defence personnel, Home Office staff, and international partners. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. You will lead on IBS's Communication Information Systems (CIS). You will be the direct Line Manager for an Administration Officer (AO) Civil Servant and manage output from the Signals Platoon, consisting of 19 Service Personnel (SP) of varying ranks. You will not be the Line Manager of individuals occupying military positions. The team provides essential support to students during their trade training and effective management of CIS equipment and personnel is vital to the delivery of courses at the IBS.
Key Responsibilities
* Responsible for the safe custody, registration, mustering, amendment, issue, safe handling and disposal of all cryptographic items at IBS in accordance with MOD Policy.
* Act as the IBS Information Technology Security Officer (ITSO) – manage CIS Security in accordance with MOD Policy.
* Manage the Commercial Radio systems and on-site fixed telecommunications.
* Manage and accountability of IT Hardware to include both MODNET and ACII.
* Manage the CIS budget for Contracting, Procurement & Finance (CP&F) of IT equipment.
* Line Management for 1 Administrative Officer.
* Perform the role of Airwave Unit System Manager in-line with RMADS policy, critical to safe training delivery.
* Perform the role of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Safety Officer, analogous to Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
* Act as Local Security Officer (LSO), Authorised Demander for CP&F Procurement and Lecture Halls Custodian.
* Manage CIS equipment, team personnel, and output to ensure continued delivery of IBS training.

Other Information
The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits to MOD will be subject to a six-month probation. Travel expenses for interviews are not reimbursed. Pay-related allowances may be reviewed. Moving to MOD from another employer may affect eligibility for childcare vouchers. The Smoking policy prohibits tobacco use in the Defence working environment, with exemptions per local guidance.
