Commercial Leader / Sales Director / CEO Designate (Advanced Engineering / Automation)

We are working with a private equity-backed advanced engineering business at an inflection point in its growth.

The company has developed a highly differentiated technology spanning robotics, precision measurement/metrology and software, with strong technical credibility and early customer traction. The focus now is to transition from an R&D‑led organisation into a commercially driven business capable of scaling revenue.

This role is a critical appointment and will suit an individual who combines strong commercial instinct with sufficient technical understanding to operate credibly with engineers, customers and partners.


The Opportunity

* Take a leading role in shaping and executing the commercial strategy of a high‑potential technology business
* Drive conversion of an existing pipeline and bring greater rigour to sales execution
* Develop routes to market including direct sales, channel partnerships and system integrator relationships
* Work closely with an experienced Chair and investor group to build a scalable, high‑performing business
* Opportunity to progress into a full CEO position as the business grows


What We’re Looking For

* Proven track record in B2B technical sales leadership (e.g. automation, robotics, metrology, industrial software or related sectors)
* Experience selling into complex industrial environments with multiple stakeholders
* Strong commercial bias — comfortable leading from the front and closing opportunities
* Ability to engage credibly with technical teams without being purely engineering‑led
* Experience building or leveraging partner / channel ecosystems (OEMs, integrators, distributors)
* High energy, hands‑on approach — willing to be visible in the business and in the market


Context

The business has a strong technical team and established product foundation but requires greater commercial leadership, structure and market engagement to unlock its full potential.

This is not a purely strategic or governance‑led role — success will come from driving activity, creating momentum and delivering revenue growth.


Location

UK‑based. Regular and meaningful on‑site presence required in the South West of England alongside significant time spent with customers and partners.
