About Our School
Easthorpe School is an independent specialist provision serving children and young people in the East Midlands who live with their families, foster carers or in residential children’s homes. The school opened in November 2022 and is expanding the team to support the increase in pupil numbers in the Lower School (7–13 yrs). Class sizes do not exceed 6 pupils and are supported by a qualified class teacher with up to 2 teaching assistants. The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and a range of diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attachment needs and mild/moderate learning needs.
This role offers opportunities to shape the growth of our new provision and develop areas aligned to your experience and interests (e.g., food hygiene, Forest School, sport, therapy, emotional literacy). High-quality education is provided with a thoughtful, pupil-specific approach.
Role Responsibilities
* Dedicated to mentoring and supporting one pupil or a small group (up to six pupils)
* Support the Classroom Teacher during lessons
* Report on pupils' progress and concerns, liaise with school staff to meet needs
* Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
* Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation
* Set work where appropriate, and marking
* Build positive relationships with pupils to drive interaction and positive learning outcomes
Requirements
* Strong basic education (ideally A-level) with GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent; solid IT skills
* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant
* Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting
* Willingness to take additional responsibility in school areas (e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunches, Yoga)
* Experience of behaviour management
* Commitment to professional development and willingness to learn
* Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check prior to commencing work
