Position: Contract
Location: Leiston (3 days on-site)
Days on Site: 3
Duration: Approx until 31st Dec 2026
Pay: DOE, up to 690£PAYE/ 945£ UMBRELLA
Sizewell C is designing and intends to construct, commission, operate and decommission two UK EPR reactors on the SZC Site, located at Sizewell, on the east coast of the County of Suffolk. It will be within the civil parish of Leiston cum Sizewell.
The SZC Project will be the most advanced nuclear generation asset in development in the UK with 3.2 GW of power capacity, providing 60 years of electricity generation and 7% of the UK's current electricity demand, and directly supporting up to 70,000 jobs. SZC will be delivered as a regulated utility, with a robust RAB model and a comprehensive Government Support Package to provide protection against low-probability high impact risks. The project will be based on the HPC nuclear power station, replicating the UK EPR design that is being built at HPC, and will use the majority of the same supply chain resulting in a significant reduction in construction risk.
Function & Position Overview
SZC Project Controls will serve as a centre of excellence, managing and strategically using delivery performance management information. Our team will enable successful delivery of SZC Project through proactive Project Controls that drives forward-looking solutions to continuously improve performance. As a Programme Scheduler, you will be working within one of the Delivery Programmes.
The post holder will be ultimately responsible for the delivery of all schedule related activities within the Programme Area they are assigned, in support of the Project Controls Execution Plan and the Schedule Functional Guidelines which ensures we operate and deliver controls within the SZC governance structure, organisation and delivery model. They will ensure Schedule activities are being carried out in an efficient manor in accordance with calendars and deadlines established on SZC. They will be proactive in their approach to driving innovation and excellence.
The candidate should have experience of working on a large-scale, complex project environment and they will have experience of working on an integrated schedule within a schedule hierarchy and understand how integrated Project Controls management information is achieved. This knowledge and their previous experience on major programmes and projects will enable them to assure and challenge outputs produced by both their schedule team and the supply chain schedulers they interact with. They will be able to write and edit schedule related reports (variance analysis, schedule basis reports, progress reports, critical path summaries), so that reports all have a consistent style, and the narrative answers the 'So What? - cause, effect, mitigation' questions for Managers and Leadership. They will be able to distal large complex schedule information into strategic summaries that translate critical messages to Managers and Leadership.
They will have experience of working with the supply chain, multi discipline teams and senior leadership to ensure that all schedule related activities are carried out effectively. They will have commercial acumen to review supplier schedule submissions, to ensure that the schedules are compliant with the Contract requirements, contain the required schedule information and is in line with overall SZC objectives. They will have a level of forensic schedule understanding to enable change analysis from both a contract and client perspective. They will be comfortable to present schedule related material and lead workshops to assure supply chain submissions, deep dive critical issues, mitigate schedule pressures, peer review other schedules. They should be able to demonstrate their ability to handle multiple schedule related activities, tasks or one of exercises that might be asked of them and ensure they can prioritize these for successful delivery.
Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions
Responsible for the complete Schedule related activities for a Programme Area
Accountable for liaising with the supply chain and the assurance and contract compliance of their Schedule related information
Co-ordination of Schedule Functions to ensure the delivery of integrated schedule and Project Controls management information.
To support the Programme PCM and PMO Schedule Lead with progress reporting including schedule updates, forecast to complete, variance identification and opportunities for improvement.
Accountable for the on-time production and quality of month end IWS forecast, baseline and Performance Reports
Help ensure SZC is viewed by the Construction Industry as an exemplar in Schedule Management through knowledge sharing, networking and delivering presentations to the sector.
Management of senior stakeholders related to the scope being controlled or within SZC.
Line Management Responsibilities
Responsible for the line management of the Senior Schedulers, Intermediate Schedulers and or Junior Schedulers within the Programme Area.
Experience, Knowledge, & Qualifications
Essential
All items detailed above in the Job Purpose and accountabilities section.
Degree or equivalent qualification in business analysis, accounting, finance, construction, engineering or project management, or related technical field.
A track record of working as a Schedule Lead or Project Controls Manager on large and complex infrastructure projects.
Expert planning and scheduling knowledge
Extensive experience in Primavera P6
Experience in Acumen Fuse or other schedule quality packages
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Ability to develop programmes from first principles as well as critical interrogation of suppliers' programmes.
Detailed understanding of Schedule Hierarchy, Schedule integration, Schedule change.
Able to promote planning and scheduling across the project at all levels
Sound contract acumen, in particular the NEC suite and FIDIC.
Sound understanding of QSRA
Knowledge in construction management
Good understanding of the Design processes
Knowledge of CDM and the impact on the schedule.
Knowledge of Project Management techniques as described in APM Guidelines or similar learned society
Experience of successfully managing a team in a matrix structure on a project.
Experience with increasing responsibility showing an ability to manage senior stakeholders.
Deliverables focused and an accomplished problem solver, rising to meet any challenge.
Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable
Active membership of AACE, PMI, APM or similar association with association certifications.
User of a range of reporting and analytics software and project controls systems particularly Power BI.
Experience in the Nuclear sector.
Experience in other planning software (MS Project, Project Wise etc).
