Join Our Team as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry
Are you a passionate geriatric psychiatrist seeking a leadership role with impact? We are looking for a dedicated Consultant to join our vibrant team in Dover & Deal, known as the ‘Garden of England’.
The Community Mental Health Care Group Older Persons (CMHCGOP) for Dover and Deal provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment services for the over-65 population in the area.
As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our patients while enjoying a fulfilling career with excellent professional development opportunities. You will be part of a dedicated, professional, and supportive team alongside one other Consultant.
Applicants should ideally have MRCPsych or equivalent, be on, or within six months of inclusion on, the Specialist Register. Full GMC registration, Approved Clinician status, and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act are required (or to be achieved within 3 months of appointment).
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Dover/Deal CMHSOP, including outpatient clinics (face-to-face, via video or telephone), home visits, and reviews in residential and nursing homes.
2. Conduct MCA and MHA assessments, attend complex case discussions, CPA and 117 review meetings, and be available for urgent clinical matters.
3. Participate in daily RED Board and referral triage meetings, weekly clinical meetings, monthly complex case discussions, and governance meetings.
4. Support the team in maintaining MSNAP accreditation for the Memory Assessment Service.
5. Liaise with referrers, allied professionals, Social Services, carers, voluntary organizations, and contribute to multi-agency working.
