Responsibilities
The Senior Buyer will provide leadership and day‑to‑day management to the relevant section of the Purchasing team, while delivering a proactive, strategic procurement service that supports business objectives. The role is responsible for ensuring purchasing activities are executed safely, efficiently, and cost‑effectively, with a strong focus on supplier performance, risk management, compliance, continuity of supply, and continuous improvement.
Success requires proven experience in a Purchasing or Procurement role, including leading teams or processes within a busy manufacturing or engineering environment and working to deadlines. You will bring strong expertise and use effective communication to negotiate suppliers, drive cost reduction, manage contracts, and improve supplier performance, alongside experience in risk management, supplier due diligence, and compliance.
Analytical skills are essential: you must be able to interpret data, identify trends, and support informed decision‑making. You should be confident in leading and coordinating team activities, prioritising workloads, ensuring smooth operations, and building strong stakeholder relationships with excellent communication and influencing skills. A full driving licence is also required for this role.
Qualifications
A good understanding of ERP/MRP systems, purchasing controls and procurement best practice is essential, including supplier management, sourcing and contract terms. Knowledge of supply‑chain risk, cost control and business processes is required, and the ability to interpret technical drawings is advantageous. Experience in casting, machining, fabrication or procurement of electrical components is beneficial.
