Job Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

About the Role
Are you looking for a career where you can work with students who have significant learning difficulties? GSL Education is actively recruiting a SEMH Teaching Assistant to work at a secondary school in Gateshead starting immediately.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
* Identify students in crisis and follow the Positive Behaviour Support System (PBS).
* Provide 1:1 support to students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
* Support delivery of in-class activities, promote independent learning, and encourage social skills.
* Follow Education Health Care Plans to meet student outcomes.
* Experience with Wellbeing and Mind Team (WIMT), Educational Psychology services, Paediatricians, CAMHS, or Therapists is advantageous.
* Hold an Enhanced DBS registered with the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Support students on a one-to-one and small group basis.
* Assist in engaging lessons, including outdoor education and creative learning.
* Collaborate with staff and external agencies such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
* Help develop students' self-esteem, confidence, and emotional resilience to promote attendance and participation.
Please note: This role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection. The successful candidate must pass all background checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
